A proud moment for PKUC – recognised nationally for our work in First Nations education

At the National Conference for Regional, Rural and Remote Education (NCRRRE) 2026 in Ballarat, PKUC was honoured to receive the First Nations Education Award, coordinated by SPERA and recognising outstanding practice and impact in rural education.

This recognition reflects work that began through our partnership with Rio Tinto, creating tailored, locally supported education pathways for Pilbara Indigenous employees undertaking leadership and mentoring development. That same principle continues to shape our work today as we partner with Aboriginal organisations and communities across the Pilbara and Kimberley to deliver digital skills, career development, workplace readiness, business skills and pathways into further education.

For PKUC, it has always been about more than delivering a course. It’s about meeting people where they are, understanding what our communities need, and creating education pathways that work for regional people and regional lives.

We’re very grateful to Rio Tinto, our community partners and participants who continue to make this work possible.
