PKUC graduates set to strengthen regional workforces after studying close to home
5 May 2026
Port Hedland, WA — In a powerful show of what’s possible when community, industry and determination come together, Port Hedland has celebrated Pilbara Kimberley University Centres (PKUC) students whose achievements are reshaping what Higher Education looks like in regional Australia.
At a local ceremony on Saturday, 23rd May, scholarship recipients and graduates who could not attend PKUC’s Karratha graduation on 1 May 2026 were honoured alongside their families and supporters. The gathering was small; the impact is anything but. It signals a region where geography no longer dictates opportunity, and where talent can take root — and rise — close to home.
“These students have balanced study, work and family, often across long distances,” said PKUC Centre Manager, Hedland. “Their success shows that Higher Education belongs in the regions. We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside them. PKUC will continue to advocate for equitable access to education, no matter where you live, so that geography never determines opportunity.”
This year’s scholarship recipients reflect a growing coalition investing in local futures:
PKUC also celebrates new graduates who have turned aspiration into attainment:
Each name tells a bigger story: that a nurse trained in the Pilbara strengthens local care; that a mature-age student’s first credential sparks a family legacy; that a postgraduate in Intelligence Analysis can build a national-security career from the Northwest. These are not exceptions — they are a blueprint.
PKUC’s wraparound model is designed for regional reality. Students access campus-style study spaces, academic and well-being support, advocacy, and targeted funding that removes practical barriers like travel and placement costs. With partners across industry, government and community, PKUC is converting goodwill into action — scholarships, pathways, placements — so students can start, stay and succeed in the Pilbara and Kimberley.
The message from Hedland is clear: world-class ambition belongs in regional postcodes. By standing behind local learners, PKUC and its partners are not only changing lives — they are changing the map of where Australian higher education happens
