PKUC's Successful Visit to Fitzroy: Engaging Students and Community at the Deadly Jobs Expo

Last month, Fiona and Amanda from Broome PKUC embarked on an 8-hour round trip to Fitzroy to attend the two-day Fitzroy Deadly Jobs Expo. This visit also marked PKUC's first trip to Fitzroy Valley District High School, where we met with the Leadership Team to discuss how PKUC can support their students.

During our visit, we worked with Year 10-12 students, delivering a modified version of the Year 10 AHEAD program. We presented the session to 14 students from Years 8-10 and tailored our session to include pathway options for each student's specific goals. These aspirations included nursing, entomology/zoology, real estate, journalism, and more. This personalized approach proved especially valuable for students who had not realized how accessible the pathway to their dream career could be.

The Deadly Jobs Expo was a great success, particularly on the first day, when school groups and community members visited our stand for tours and conversations. We received several inquiries from community members, students, and even stallholders.

Overall, it was an enjoyable and rewarding trip. It was wonderful to connect with people living in such remote areas and to feel that our presence could make a meaningful impact. We look forward to continuing our support and expanding our reach to more students in the future.
